Bull Moose, Long Lake.

Bull Moose (Alces alces) shaking water from antlers, in a lake, springtime, Wrangell - St. Elias National Park, Alaska.

Hey Folks,

Here’s a quick one while I’m hiking. I saw this bull moose a few times this spring, feeding on the aquatic plants that grow on the lake bed this time of year. Quite a rack for early June. He’ll be quite a sought after moose come this fall when the subsistence hunters look around Wrangell – St. Elias National Park for their winter meat. As much as I like for my friends to eat well, I hope nobody gets this guy.

Cheers

Carl

Wow, beautiful shot Carl. You really get a feel for how big this guy is in this image.
I always hope that great examples if a species like thus will be spared to preserve the gene pool. Wishful thinking only I guess.

P.s. I thought you would be the first one to promote hiking safety by not hiking and posting at the same time. ;-)

    Hey Mark,

Thanks man. If you think this guy is big, wait til you see the next moose photo I post.

As for hiking and posting, actually, I wrote the note ahead of time, and scheduled it to post to the site on the given date. I’m some kind of blogging guru to be able to do that, I reckon, I do. :)

    Cheers

I guess I’ll go hungry unless he shows up in the yard or some nearby haunt. I hope he heads for the hills as today is season opener.

    Hey Mark,

I hope you don’t go TOO hungry – but I hope he stays well, too. :)

    Cheers
